Today I heard about a grand wedding of an Indian tycoon (Ambani's son) from a friend of mine, and he showed me some videos of it too. He said famous and powerful people from around the world have been invited to it, and the cost of the event was going to be several Billions (of Indian Rupees or USD, I don't know). If you think about it, India is a country with a higher population of substandard living conditions. There are innocent and miserable children who are forced to work for a mere subsistence, being deprived of education, health facilities, and food and water. I remember a movie based on a true story in which Akshey Kumar was playing the leading role where he makes sanitary towels (pads) for poor women who could not afford it. In such a country, a single wedding event spends billions of money. What a crappy world we are living! You could imagine how much wealth this family has amassed. CHAPTER
II
CITIZENSHIP
8. (1) There shall be one status of Citizenship known as the “Citizen of Sri Lanka” which shall be obtained either by descent or by registration.
(2) No Citizen of Sri Lanka shall be deprived of or cease to hold that Citizenship notwithstanding operation of any other provisions of existing laws.
(3) Every person who at the commencement of this Constitution was a Citizen of Sri Lanka shall still be a Citizen of Sri Lanka.
(4) A Child whose mother or father is a Citizen of Sri Lanka shall be entitled to be a Citizen of Sri Lanka by descent regardless of place of birth in the World.
(5) President may offer Citizenship, by registration, of “Honorary Citizen” to a foreign person who shall be distinguished in science, education, research, literature after a resolution in the Parliament is passed therefor.
(6) (a) A foreign person who is legally married to a Sri Lankan Citizen shall be considered to be a “Resident of Sri Lanka” by virtue of such legal marriage. The status of Resident shall confer on the Resident the right to live in Sri Lanka for an indefinite time, and shall not entitle the Resident to enjoy the rights and privileges absolutely reserved for Citizens by this Constitution or other laws including the right to be an elector or to be elected by an election, to be recruited to Police or armed forces, to be employed or appointed to a strategic position of the State.
(b) A person who is already a Resident as per the provisions of subparagraph (a) of this paragraph, and if such person lived in Sri Lank for not less than ten years since such person obtained the Resident status, such person shall be entitled to be registered as a Citizen of Sri Lanka by registration.
(c) A foreign Child who is under sixteen years old and also son or daughter of a previous marriage of a person who is legally married to a Sri Lankan Citizen shall be considered to be a Resident of Sri Lanka by virtue of the marriage of the parent of such Child, and if such Child lived in Sri Lanka for not less than five years since such Child obtained the Resident status, such Child shall be entitled to be registered as a Citizen of Sri Lanka by registration.
